To Zennor - A Fractured Mind

During a period in which I was dealing with various issues which played on my mind, including unresolved issues form a divorce, the death of my father, work stress and relationships with family members, I took long walks in Cornwall to contemplate these issues, making photographs along the way.  Instead or helping me to resolve the issues, it led to a period of depression, insomnia and anxiety.  The images that I made on these walks did not seem to coalesce the issues I was dealing with or address them in any meaningful manner.  Instead, a visit to the Tate St Ives including an exhibition abstract art by John Wells, Peter Lanyon and other St Ives School artists led me to explore whether a Cubist approach to representing these things anxieties might provide a way to photographically resolve the issues by offering perspectives of my fractured mind.

I am pleased to say that one of these images (To Zennor) has been shown in a new exhibition in Cambridge (Shutter Hub Open 2026) and yesterday (24.1.26) I was thrilled to see the image displayed alongside some really excellent work.
